Electricity (11)
What’s this program about?
Through an exclusive arrangement with FirstEnergy Solutions, VolunteerEnergy is offering a substantially discounted electricity rate to business customers in the AEP Ohio area. You could save 20% or more on the cost of your electricity.
How does it work?
It’s simple! AEP Ohio will still send you your monthly bill and handle any service calls, just as they always have. When you enroll in this program, the only thing that changes is the rate you pay for the generation and transmission portion of your bill. That’s really all there is to it.
Why haven’t I heard of this before?
Electricity competition in our area is new. This is the first time a program like this has ever been offered to AEP Ohio business customers. Now you have a choice on where your energy dollars go. You can save on your electricity and still get the same billing and service you’re used to.
Who are VolunteerEnergy and FirstEnergy Solutions?
VolunteerEnergy is a locally owned natural gas and electricity supplier headquartered in Pickerington, Ohio. VolunteeerEnergy operates in six states and is one of the fastest growing energy companies in the USA. FirstEnergy Solutions, based in Akron, Ohio is one of the largest unregulated electricity suppliers in the nation. Both companies are financially strong, and are working together through this exclusive arrangement to provide discounted electricity to the Central and Southern Ohio markets.
Does my price change each month?
That depends on the rate plan you sign up for.
We offer a fixed rate plan for both business and residential that will stay at the same price for the term of your agreement, typically two or three years. That’s important considering the rate increases instituted by AEP Ohio in the last few years. By taking advantage of this offer now, you can avoid any future rate increases should they occur.
We also offer the only Residential Guaranteed Savings rate that is computed off of the Price-to-Compare on your residential electric bill. This rate will save you 6% OFF of the EDU Price to Compare every month, guaranteed! This plan may be especially beneficial for residential users who use a lot of electricity year round.
How long does it take to get my new rate?
Your new billing rate takes effect after the next available meter read date.
Does anyone have to come out to my home or business?
No. You can find all the forms and information you need by clicking here. After filling out the enrollment form, send it with a copy of your most recent AEP electricity bill back to us by email, fax or mail. Email: vechoice@volunteerenergy.com. Mail: Volunteer Energy, 790 Windmiller Drive, Pickerington, OH 43147. Fax: 877.720.2070.
We’ll handle everything from there.
Can I sign up additional accounts or meters at my place of business?
Absolutely! Just fill out the Additional Accounts page of the business enrollment form for as many meters as you have.
Where do I find my 17 digit “Service Delivery Identification Number” required for successful enrollment?
Click here to view a sample AEP bill which highlight where to locate the Service Delivery Identifier number you need to place on your enrollment form to assure successful enrollment.
What if I want to cancel?
Since this is a fixed rate or guaranteed discount rate contract for a period of time, there are termination fees that apply, should you wish to change suppliers. Check the Terms & Conditions for more information.
Natural Gas Rates (8)
I didn’t know I could select my natural gas supplier. Is this true?
YES! Customer Gas Choice is a program developed to open competition in the natural gas industry and is offered to eligible utility customers in select states. Customer Choice allows you to choose a price plan for your home or business from a licensed supplier like VolunteerEnergy, with delivery and billing still provided through the utility.
When you select VolunteerEnergy as your gas supplier through the Customer Choice program, you are still considered a customer of the utility and will experience no interruption of service. The utility will continue to:
- Deliver natural gas to your home or business
- Read your meter
- Respond to all service calls
- Send you a monthly bill
If I enroll with VolunteerEnergy, will my utility company change?
No. Your utility company remains the same. When you enroll, VolunteerEnergy becomes your natural gas supplier which determines the price you pay for your natural gas supply. The utility will continue to deliver your natural gas, read your meter, respond to all service calls and send you a monthly bill. The only difference will be that VE will appear on your bill as the natural gas supplier, and you’ll pay a lower gas rate.
Is the Gas Customer Choice Program an approved program by my utility?
Yes it is. VolunteerEnergy is license in all states they serve as a natural gas alternative supplier and serves thousands of satisfied customers across the Midwest.
If I choose VolunteerEnergy for my natural gas, do I have to call my utility to let them know?
No. When you sign up with VolunteerEnergy, we will contact your utility and notify them that you’ve chosen us as your natural gas supplier. No one will need to come to your home or business and you will not experience any interruption of service.
Is there a long term commitment or a cancellation fee?
No. With VE there is no cancellation fee and only 30 days notice is requested should you decide to change your service.
Can I still get “budget billing”?
Yes. If you are in the budget billing program now, nothing will change. If you would like to sign up for budget billing, contact your utility.
How long does it take for VE to appear on my bill as my gas supplier?
Usually, your service with VE will start one billing cycle after sign-up.
What if I have a question regarding my bill?
