Natural Gas & Electricity

Energy Choice in Michigan

The deregulation of energy was established to allow consumers, businesses and industries the ability to choose their energy supplier and remain competitive, while bringing jobs and economic development to the state. In Michigan, Energy Customer Choice started in April 1998 with a pilot program, and today has four natural gas Customer Choice programs in effect — Consumers Energy, DTE Gas Company, Michigan Gas Utilities and SEMCO Energy Gas Company. According to the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC), over 460,000 customers are participating statewide in natural gas customer choice, with approximately 18 percent participation in 2013.   By giving consumers the ability to choose a natural gas supplier, competition opens up a greater variety of pricing plans and gives the customer the power to choose the rate option that is best for their home or business.

Energy Rate Plan Options for Customers

Volunteer Energy offers residential and business customers in Michigan natural gas supply.  Our goal is to help you control your energy costs by providing rate plan options. Our variable rate plan is historically our best performing rate plan option.  We also offer a Guaranteed Savings plan (priced below the utility Adder each month), and a fixed rate plan for cost protection and security.  The availability of these rate plan options may vary monthly as we strive to always offer our most competitive pricing.
